As I went to my car this morning, I noticed the stock RNS-315 display showing a 'Please insert software CD!' notice and was in some sort of software update menu. The problem is, it is stuck here and will not change to any other function. I'm not quite sure how this happened, as all was working just as it should last night. I did not engage any sort of software update, and I noticed this was on the RNS-315 display even before I got in my car to turn it on. The car has not had any recent repairs or visits to the shop, and I didn't change/add/modify anything in nearly a year.
In order to hopefully solve, I disconnected the battery for 30 minutes to see if it would reset, but alas the 'Please insert software CD!' notice is back up in display. I've also tried holding the RNS-315 power button for about 10 seconds, as well as some other keys. It's not responding to anything. Also, I've put in a random music CD, and it states 'not valid software update CD' and ejects.
Has anyone encountered this before? Any suggestions for fixing? I've searched here and on other VW forums for this type of behavior out of the blue, but couldn't find any stories or reasoning; especially since I don't have an update disc nor have I made any attempt to perform an update to the RNS-315.
